The key factor here is the humidity. When it feels like you can cleave the air with a knife because it's 120% relative humidity, 90 is hot.

Mine's white with tan interior and it STILL gets baking hot in there.
That velour or whatever's on my seats makes my back sweaty too. It doesn't "breathe" well.

I got a black vinyl interior and I had a bad AC relay. The temperature doesn't bother me, but the stagnant 90% humidity sucks.

former Phoenix resident and now a central Valley California denizen.
two years with no ac, was 104 last week.
Pro-tip:
keep the windows closed for stints of a few minutes at a time (for as long as you can bear and/or keep a grip on your stick shift knob through the sweat), then open them up and lean forward in your seat.
the rush of air will evaporate all the perspiration on your body and make you feel cool.
Leaning forward will let the air pass by your back with is undoubtedly soaking wet. its like someone poured ice water down your back.
if you are in High humidity climate.. yer hosed.
